Julia Joyce
Recently appointed to Principal Viola of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Julia Joyce was born in Wellington NZ and completed a BMus with First Class Honours at Victoria University in 2004. She was Concertmaster of the National Youth Orchestra of NZ, and performed regularly as a contract player with the New Zealand Symphony, Auckland Philharmonia, Vector Wellington and Christchurch Symphony Orchestras. Julia moved to London in 2005 and completed an MMus with Distinction in Violin/Viola Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she was part of the winning group in the Guildhall String Quartet Competition (2006) and a finalist in the Wigmore Hall Recital Competition (2009). She was appointed to the viola section of the Philharmonia Orchestra, London, in 2010. She has also played with the London Philharmonic & Royal Philharmonic Orchestras and is the violist in the Puertas Quartet with Ellie Fagg, Tom Norris and Andrew Joyce.
