Marc Desmons
After outstanding studies at the Conservatoire de Marseille and later at the
Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, Mr. Marc Desmons received First Prize in viola,
chamber music and counterpoint. He was a student of Serge Collot, Jean Sulem, Jean
Mouillère, Christian Ivaldi, Hatto Beyerle, Walter Levin.
In 1992, he was appointed assistant principal viola with the Paris Opera Orchestra.
He was awarded 3rd Prize of the International Moscow Competition «Yuri Bashmet»
in 1995 and commenced intense activity in solo and chamber music troughout Europe and
United States (especially with the Marlboro Festival). He has played with Franck Braley, Jean-
Guihen Queyras, Michel Poulet, Peter Wiley, Donald Wilerstein, Hilary Hahn. He is annually
invited to the MMCJ (Festival and Master Classes) in Japan.
Thanks to his sensibility and his disposition, he has become a highly qualified member
of Quatuor Galitzine, Ensemble Metamorphosis and ZIK. He has played with the Ensemble
Intercontemporain and is now member of the new music Ensemble TM+.
Since 2010 he is principal viola with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France.
For the french label Saphir he recorded Britten's « Lachrimae » with the Orchestre
d'Auvergne, conducted by Armin Jordan.
He composed « Furibonderies » for solo viola and 5 celli.
As conductor he leads regularly the « Note et Bien » Orchestra. He conducted recently
his debut at the Opéra-Bastille (Studio-Bastille) in a new music program by Ricardo Nillni. He
also conducts the Ensemble ™+
